James Thomas Linnell (1823-1905).
The painting - which depicts a late summer harvest in Surrey - is signed by the artist and dated 1870. In that same year it was exhibited at the Royal Academy. The accompanying images feature an article discussing this critically acclaimed painting in the Art Journal of 1872.

Between 1850 and 1888 James Linnell exhibited 38 paintings at the Royal Academy. Hi style and subject matter was very similar to that of his famous father John Linnell (1792-1882).
