This is a very large fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting a spectacular view of ‘Windsor Castle from the Thames’ by the important Victorian landscape painter Alfred de Bréanski Snr (1852-1928). The painting is signed by the artist and sold in a fine quality gold metal leaf swept frame. Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 39 English monarchs. Today the Queen spends most of her private weekends at the Castle, and in May it was the venue for the marriage of Prince Harry and Megan Markel.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the very finest condition it can be for its age having been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.
A very successful British landscape painter, Alfred de Bréanski Senior became famous for his dramatic scenes of the Scottish Highlands and views of the River Thames. Between 1869 and 1915 Alfred de Bréanski exhibited 46 oils at the Royal Academy and a great many more at the Grosvenor Gallery and the Suffolk Street Gallery of the Royal Society of British Artists.
