This is a large fine 19th century English summer landscape oil painting depicting two figures enjoying ‘Summer by the Stream’ by the celebrated Royal Academy artist, James Edwin Meadows (1828-1888). The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1879. It is sold in a superb quality newly commissioned bespoke gold metal leaf swept frame.

The most accomplished and successful painter of the famous Meadows family of Victorian artists, James Edwin Meadows exhibited 26 works at the Royal Academy, 17 at the British Institution, and 55 with the Royal Society of British Artists at the Suffolk Street Gallery, as well as at the prestigious Walker Art in Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery, and the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin.
