This is a very beautiful fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting a young girl offering ‘A Helping Hand’ to her mother who is preparing a meal by the eminent German painter Hermann Neuhaus (1863-1941). This exceptionally well executed original antique oil painting is signed by the artist and presented in a good 20th century Louis XV giltwood swept frame.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in excellent condition, having been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.
The popularity of the painting being sold here was such that the image rights were purchased by publishers and prints were available to buy. A framed example of one such old colour print is included here in the sale.
In addition to being an accomplished painter of popular genre scenes Professor Hermann Neuhaus was also a renowned historian and architect. A student of Franz von Lenbach and Fritz von Uhde, Neuhaus designed the Mount Sermon fresco in the Wolfratshausen Evangelical Church, and the resurrection fresco in the Stollwerck Mausoleum in Hohenfried.
