This is a large fine 19th century landscape oil on canvas depicting an English summer harvest in ‘A Cornfield’ by the celebrated Royal Academy artist Henry John Kinnaird (1862-1929). The painting previously sold at Sotheby’s in London in 1983, and has since been in the collection of the global mining multinational Rio Tinto.
Henry John Kinnaird was an eminent and successful painter of English rural landscapes whom became most celebrated for his rich harvest scenes depicting the countryside around Surrey and Sussex. Between 1880 and 1891 Kinnaird exhibited 7 paintings at the Royal Academy, a further 7 times with the Royal Society of British Artists, and at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in London.
