‘Chercher L’attention’ by Leopold Malempré (1860-1917).
A fine large Belle Epoque oil on canvas depicting an elegant young Parisienne being distracted from her reading by her attention-seeking cat. The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1911.

Leopold Malempré was born in France in 1860, the second son of the eminent French sculptor Louis Auguste Malempré. After the family moved to London, Leo Malempré built a long and successful career as a painter of elegant Belle Epoque beauties. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1887 and 1909.
