This is a fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting a young family – a father, mother and their daughter – resting before an expansive English country landscape by the eminent Royal Academy artist, Charles Thomas Burt RBSA (1823-1902). This beautiful work is signed by the artist and dated 1868.
Burt was a pupil of the important mid-19th century landscape painters David Cox and Samuel Lines and subsequently went on to become a leading member of the Birmingham School of Victorian painters. C.T. Burt exhibited 18 works at the Royal Academy, 6 at the Royal Institute, 6 at the Society of British Artists, 2 at the Grosvenor Gallery and 39 with the RBSA.
