The Adoration of the Magi - 19th Century Oil Painting of the Nativity
This is a very large 19th century oil on canvas depicting ‘The Adoration of the Magi’ following the birth of Christ in Bethlehem by the eminent German painter Carl Ehrenberg (1840-1914). The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1887. It hangs in a superb quality, newly commissioned bespoke gold metal leaf frame.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the very finest condition it can be for its age, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished. Clients should also note that fully insured, tracked and signed for international shipping is complimentary.
Carl Ehrenberg studied at the Royal Danish Art Academy in Copenhagen and in Dresden from 1862 with Julius Hübner (1806-1882). Ehrenberg became well known for his history paintings of Germanic mythology and religious subjects. He also painted famous portraits of Franz Liszt and the author Princess Feodora Holstein.
