This is a very large fine 19th century landscape oil on canvas depicting an extensive snow-covered winter woodland scene in the village of Ringwood in Hampshire by the very popular Victorian painter Charles Leaver (1824-1888). The painting is signed by the artist and dated 1879. It is sold in a superb quality, newly commissioned gold metal leaf swept frame.

Charles Leaver was a successful artist of the Birmingham School of English landscape painters noted for his meticulous compositions of rural Victorian Britain in winter. His almost pre-Raphaelite attention to detail in rendering the branch of every tree and each blade of straw on thatched cottage roofs has always made his expansive snowy landscapes very popular in the both UK and abroad.
