This is a very large fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting an extensive summer landscape featuring a single figure in a punt, a hay cart, and numerous cattle ‘On the Thames near Mapledurham’ by the eminent Royal Academy artist Henry John Kinnaird (1862-1929). The painting is signed by the artist and presented in a fine quality giltwood swept frame.

Henry John Kinnaird was a successful painter of English rural landscapes who became most celebrated for his rich harvest scenes capturing the countryside along the course of the River Thames. Between 1880 and 1891 Kinnaird exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, and the British Institution in London.
