This is a fine late 19th century oil on canvas depicting groups of cavaliers in conversation in a stone courtyard by the eminent Italian painter Arturo Orselli (fl.1880-1900). ‘Il Cavaliere’ is signed by the artist and hangs in a magnificent 19th century gilded rococo frame.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the very finest condition it can be for its age having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.
The painting is accompanied by a handwritten note from March 14th 1904, marking its sale at auction at Edwalton Hall, Nottinghamshire for £110 (£9,350/$12,400 in today’s money).
