Parisian Beauty in a Blue Dress - 19th Century French Belle Epoque Portrait of Young Girl

This is a very large fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting a beautiful young woman reclining on a chaise in an opulent salon by the distinguished French artist Augustine Damourette (1879-1890). The painting is signed and dated 1882. It is sold here in a magnificent antique French water gilded frame.

As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the very finest condition it can be for its age, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.

Augustine Damourette was born in Nantes in 1837 and, alongside John Singer Sargent and Paul Hellau, studied under the famous French portrait artist Carolus Duran. Augustine Damourette exhibited at the Paris Salon for the first time in 1879, and went on to become a successful painter of glamourous Parisian society beauties.

Please be aware that this large antique oil painting hangs in a very heavy water-gilded frame and is not suitable for hanging on a weak or stud wall.
