A Pair of Fine 19th Century Scottish Landscape Oil Paintings
This is a fine pair of 19th century oil paintings depicting two summer scenes of Scotland entitle ‘A Border Tower, Evening’ and ‘Lake & Mountains, Morning Effect’ by the eminent Victorian landscape painter James Roberts (1832-1912). Both paintings are signed by the artist and dated 1860. They hang in fine quality Chippendale design giltwood frames.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in excellent condition, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished. Clients should also note that tracked and signed for international shipping is complimentary.
James Roberts was a very gifted mid-19th century painter from Leeds whose detailed and beautifully lit Scottish landscapes are reminiscent of Sidney Richard Percy. Between 1858 and 1876 James Roberts exhibited in London at Royal Academy, the British Institution, and the Royal Society of British Artists at the Suffolk Street Gallery.
