This is a large fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting a young family by a stone bridge with harvesters in the fields beyond in a mountainous Welsh landscape by the eminent Victorian painter Benjamin Shipham (1806-1872). ‘Snowdon in Summertime’ is signed by the artist and dated 1855.

As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the finest condition it can be for its age, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished. Clients should also note that fully insured, tracked and signed for international shipping is complimentary.

Mount Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, standing at the heart of what is now known as Snowdonia National Park where many important Victorian landscape artists came to live and work.

Benjamin Shipham was a successful painter of English and Welsh landscapes renowned for his great attention to detail. Between 1852 and 1872 he exhibited 9 paintings at the Royal Academy, 11 at the British Institution, and 15 with the Royal Society of British Artists at the Suffolk Street Gallery.
