This is a very large fine mid-19th century marine scene oil on canvas of various shipping vessels negotiating ‘High Winds’ in the Channel off the South Coast of England by the famous listed Victorian marine painter, William Callcott Knell (1830-1880). This magnificent work is signed by the artist and dated 1865, and would make a spectacular focal point in the finest of rooms.
William Callcott Knell exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institution, and with the Society of British Artists at the Suffolk Street Gallery.
