This is a fine 19th century landscape oil on canvas depicting a figure walking towards a distant villages nestled in ‘The Sussex Downs’ by the celebrated listed British artist, Alfred Clint (1807-1883). This magnificent painting is signed by the artist.
Alfred Clint is famous as a painter of English coastal scenes and extensive landscapes of the South of England. He first exhibited at the British Institution in 1828, and went on to exhibit 406 works, eventually becoming President of the RSA in 1869. Clint exhibited 24 paintings at the Royal Academy between 1828 and 1881.
