This is a large fine 19th century landscape oil on canvas of ‘Dartmoor’, the iconic setting of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel ‘The Hound of the Baskerville’s by the famous listed Victorian artist Edmund Morison Wimperis (1835-1900).
Wimperis exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists etc. and became a member of Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1875 and was voted Vice President in 1895. He was elected a full Member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1870 and a full Member of the Royal Oil Painters Institute in 1893. Works by Wimperis are held in the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
