This is a very large fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting a beautiful young woman reclining on a chaise in an opulent salon by the distinguished French artist Augustine Damourette (1879-1890). The painting is signed and dated 1882. It is sold here in a magnificent antique French water gilded frame.

As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the very finest condition it can be for its age, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.

Augustine Damourette was born in Nantes in 1837 and, alongside John Singer Sargent and Paul Hellau, studied under the famous French portrait artist Carolus Duran. Augustine Damourette exhibited at the Paris Salon for the first time in 1879, and went on to become a successful painter of glamourous Parisian society beauties.

Please be aware that this large antique oil painting hangs in a very heavy water-gilded frame and is not suitable for hanging on a weak or stud wall.

This is a large fine original 19th century oil on canvas depicting a harem girl or odalisque reclining in an Oriental seraglio by an artist of the circle of the famous French painter Henri Adrien Tanoux (1865-1923). The painting hangs in a superb quality gadrooned neoclassical frame covered in gold metal leaf.

 

As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in excellent condition, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.

 

Henri Adrien Tanoux studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris where he was a pupil of Léon Bonnat. He exhibited his works regularly at the Paris Salon, of which he became an Associate in 1905.

This is a very large fine original mid-19th century oil on canvas full length portrait of The Daughters of Robert Napier (the famous Victorian engineer) gathered around a piano in an elegant Baronial interior by the eminent Scottish painter Sir Daniel Macnee PRSA (1806-1882). The painting is inscribed extensively on the stretcher verso with details of the artist and sitters.

 

As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the very finest condition it can be for its age, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.

 

Sir Daniel Macnee was a leading Scottish portrait painter of the mid-19th century. Macnee was a pupil of the famous Scottish landscape painter John Knox, alongside Horatio McCulloch and William Leitch. In 1829 he was admitted to the Royal Scottish Academy and established a studio in Glasgow where he painted portraits of wealthy merchants, pioneering industrialists, aristocrats and even Queen Victoria. In 1876 he was elected President of the Royal Scottish Academy and knighted by Queen Victoria.

This is a large fine original 19th century oil on canvas of A Young Beauty draped in white chiffon and a red shawl by the eminent French portrait painter Henri Rondel (1857-1919). This superb Belle Époque oil painting is signed by the artist is presented in a beautiful Louis XV style swept giltwood frame.

 

As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the very finest condition it can be for its age having just been professionally cleaned, restored and re-varnished.

 

Henri Rondel studied under Jean-Léon Gérome and became famous for his sensual portraits of beautiful young fin de siècle Parisienne. Rondel exhibited at the Salon in Paris and at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. In 1897 he was made a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur.
