This is a large fine 19th century oil on canvas portrait of a beautiful Pre Raphaelite girl in characteristic Arthurian costume looking out towards the viewer from a mediaeval stone balcony. The auburn-haired girl is dressed in a pale blue crocheted tunic with a scarlet silk brocade cloak and might be one of Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s favourite muses Elizabeth Siddal or Alexa Wilding. The painting dates to the final quarter of the 19th century and although unsigned it can be attributed to a gifted follower of the Arthurian Pre Raphaelite School of Rossetti (1828-1882), Edward Burne-Jones (1833-1898) and John William Waterhouse (1849-1917).
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in excellent condition having been newly professionally cleaned and re-varnished.
The painting hangs in a fine 20th century Pre Raphaelite giltwood frame.
