Au Bord du Lac
This is a large fine Post-impressionist oil on canvas depicting a rowing boat moored at the side of a lake in summertime by the eminent Swiss painter Albert Silvestre (1869-1954). ‘Au Bord du Lac’ is signed by the artist and dated 1943. This very beautiful Post-Impressionist painting hangs in a newly commissioned bespoke Montparnasse frame.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in excellent condition, having just been professionally cleaned and re-varnished.
Between 1885 and 1895, Albert Silvestre studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the École des Arts Industriels in Geneva. Silvestre became well known for his vibrant landscapes of the Savoy region of France and of Lake Le Mans just south of Geneva. During his long career his work was compared to that of Paul Cézanne.
Albert Silvestre exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900 and was awarded a Bronze Medal at the Salon des Artistes Français. Between 1895 and 1922 he taught at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva.
