A Summer Cornfield
This is a large fine 19th century oil on canvas of an extensive English summer landscape depicting a group of children playing in a corn field as their fathers work nearby by the listed Victorian painter Charles Wilde (1855-1905). This highly detailed and exceptionally well executed work is signed by the artist.
Charles Wilde studied with the eminent 19th century landscape artist Henry Dawson (1811-1878), and first began exhibiting in London and his native Nottingham around 1879. He exhibited 113 paintings with the Nottingham Society of Artists, and showed at the Suffolk Street Gallery of the Royal Society of British Artists in London.
