Snowdon, North Wales
This is a very large fine 19th century oil on canvas depicting a figure herding cows across a stone bridge before the mountain of ‘Snowdon, North Wales’ by the renowned Victorian landscape artist Joseph Horlor (1809-1887). The painting is signed by the artist and hangs in a newly commissioned fine quality Louis XV style giltwood swept frame.
As with all of the original antique oil paintings we sell it is offered in the finest condition it can be for its age having just been cleaned and re-varnished.
Joseph Horlor lived and worked in South West of England, and many of his paintings depict the landscape of Bath and Bristol as well as North Wales. Joseph Horlor exhibited 13 paintings at the British Institution and a further 11 the Royal Society of British Artists’ Suffolk Street Gallery. Examples of his work are held by both the Bath and Bristol Museums.
